Access Ministry
McLean Bible Church
McLean Bible Church launched Access Ministry as an outreach to children with special needs in 1996. The need for spiritual, physical, and emotional support for children with disabilities and their families became evident as Pastor Lon Solomon and his wife, Brenda, faced the challenge of caring for their new daughter, Jill.
Access began with four children in a specialized class and now serves more than 500 families with church and community-based programs, including Sunday school, parent support and training sessions, summer camp, sibling events, and respite care.
One of the biggest needs parents and caregivers have is the need for respite-a break from providing care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Access currently offers two respite programs to the community, an evening session on Fridays and an all-day program on Saturdays. More than 80 percent of the children attending the programs are members of the community whose families do not attend McLean Bible Church.
