Stu Mendelsohn has been an active member of the community for over 30 years serving Fairfax County and beyond, including representing the Dranesville District as a Member of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for eight years. Before his election as Supervisor, Stu served as Vice Chair on the Fairfax County School Board.

He is a Partner with the law firm of Holland & Knight LLP in its Tysons office, primarily working on real estate, land use and corporate matters. He has worked as an engineer, manager, attorney and elected official, but always kept busy as a volunteer in his community. He has led many community organizations and served on many boards, authorities and commissions. He was a participant in Leadership Fairfax (Class of 1990), Co-Chairman of its Advisory Committee, and has served three terms on the LFI Board of Directors. He currently serves as chairman of the Jill's House Board of Directors.

He graduated from George Mason University School of Law with honors. He also has received a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Ocean Engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology. He and his wife Laura live in Great Falls with their two daughters.
