About / Weekend Adventures
Weekend Adventures are fun weekends away at camp for children (ages 6-17) with intellectual disabilities. Jill’s House nurses, staff, and volunteers tailor all of the exciting weekend activities to the interests and abilities of each child to provide an engaging and safe camping experience they can’t get anywhere else! Meanwhile, their parents receive a weekend of respite to recharge, knowing their kids are in good hands.
Every aspect of the weekend is designed to provide the best camper experience possible. Dietary restrictions are accounted for, professional nurses are always on site, and all staff and volunteers are thoroughly trained and excited to spend time with these special kids.
A Snapshot of Your Weekend
To start off the Weekend Adventure, parents bring their kids to the drop-off point, conveniently located in the community at the site of our local church partner. Jill’s House staff makes sure all the campers are settled on the bus before heading off on their adventure. During the ride out to camp, the kids get their first opportunity to interact with one another and develop great friendships. When they arrive, campers get to know their volunteer “buddy” over dinner, before an evening of music, s’mores, and smiles!
The rest of the weekend is bursting with engaging activities, tailored to each of their abilities and interests! These may include:
- Arts & Crafts
- Rock Climbing
- Ropes Courses
- Paddle Boating
- Hay Rides
- And much more!
When the campers head back to their refreshed parents at the end of the weekend, they have only question remaining: when can we go back?!
