About Weekend Adventures

Weekend Adventures are fun and exciting camping weekends for children (ages 6-17) with intellectual disabilities. Jill’s House nurses and staff tailor all of the exciting weekend activities to the interests and abilities of each camper to provide an engaging and safe camping experience they can’t get anywhere else! And local churches, schools, or social clubs supply volunteers to act as “buddies” to the campers to help them get the most out of all their weekend.  Meanwhile, the campers’ families receive a weekend of respite to recharge, knowing their kids are in good hands.

Every aspect of the weekend is designed to provide the best camper experience possible. Dietary restrictions are accounted for, professional nurses are always on site, and all staff and volunteers are thoroughly trained and excited to spend time with these special kids.

Weekend Snapshot

Parents bring their kids to the drop-off point, conveniently located in the community at the site of our local church partner. Jill’s House staff makes sure all the campers are settled on the bus before heading off on their adventure. During the ride out to camp, the kids get their first opportunity to interact with one another and develop great friendships. At the same time, the volunteers head directly to camp to prepare to meet their “buddies” for the weekend. The weekend starts with a meet-and-greet over dinner, before an evening of music, s’mores, and smiles!

The rest of the weekend is bursting with engaging activities, tailored to each of their abilities and interests!  These may include:

  • Music
  • Swimming
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Rock Climbing
  • Chapel
  • Ropes Courses
  • Ziplines
  • Archery
  • Hikes
  • Hay Rides
  • And much more!

After a weekend of fun and activity, the volunteers head home satisfied with the knowledge that they were truly doing God’s work, and the campers head back to their families who just experienced a weekend of rest.  And the question on everyone’s mind is: when can we go back?!

Locations

Thank you for a fantastic experience. We feel the weekend helped Steven gain confidence and allowed him to stretch himself a bit outside his comfort zone! Thank you.
Blue Ridge
It is always so wonderful interacting with Jill’s House. We love and adore Sara Potter so much! She absolutely makes our world a better place. Liz is also a gem! Thank you for doing this for our kiddos and families.
Lake Arrowhead
This is another stay at Jill’s house for my girl. She loves it every time and looks forward to every opportunity she has to attend!
Lake Arrowhead
I think what I love most is the fact that you all make us feel like you really want her there. It’s amazing how YOU feel blessed. I don’t feel like you’re “just doing it”. I feel like she’s “wanted”. Just amazing.
White River
Thank you for keeping the price affordable. There is just nothing else like it around here where I can send him for the weekend, that can accommodate his high needs. He had a rough time this weekend for a couple of hours, and I was worried that I would have to come get him, but the staff stuck it out and got him through it. Many special needs places even would not be able to handle him, but you are awesome! As the only caregiver with no other family support to care for my son, I am so truly grateful for the break. He and I get along better after a break too!
