Students are picked up from participating local schools.
Jill’s House School Night Program is held at our “respite lodge” conveniently located in the Washington, DC area. Every room and activity at our 42,000 square-foot facility is designed to provide children with intellectual disabilities an unforgettable experience, that they cannot get anywhere else. The space is bright and friendly, featuring colorful murals throughout. Each and every child who visits, is under loving and skilled supervision of highly-trained staff and nurses.
Caring for kids with intellectual disabilities is complex and at times can feel like a full time job. Whether due to specific behavioral needs, strict medication regimen, or special equipment that most people have never seen, parents can’t simply call up a babysitter to get a break. Thats where Jill’s House come’s in. At Jill’s House, children and young adults with intellectual disabilities enjoy adventures at our resort-like facility, while their families have a chance to rest.
In short, we give parents time. We call this time, respite.
Jill’s House partners with local schools to transport participating students to and from school in our wheelchair accessible school buses with certified drivers and childcare specialists on board. The children enjoy many creative activities, and the use of our playground, gyms, and specially heated indoor pool. They are cared for by a licensed nurse, daytime and overnight Direct Care staff, and a Program Manager. Activities include arts and crafts, music therapy, library time, basketball, bounce castle, swimming, games, movies, special visitors who perform music or skits, and much more!
